Frequently Asked Questions

  • *Covid Protocols*

Due to the ongoing Covid pandemic we recommend everyone within the shop to wear a mask at all times. If you are exhibiting any symptoms of illness we will provide and require you wear a mask.

Most of our rooms do not have extra space for guests, but it is per the artists discretion whether they will allow guests in their procedure areas during your tattoo. We have a waiting area in the lobby your guests can wait in if necessary.

No food and drink is permitted in the shop, besides a sealable water bottle.

If you are feeling sick or have been around someone sick please reach out to us to reschedule.

We are a small business and have families we must protect, please take this into consideration when preparing to come into our shop.

    Thank you.

  • Do we work on minors?

We at Fair Winds do not work on anyone under the age of 18, nor do we allow anyone under the age of 18 to accompany any person being tattooed. This includes children especially, tattoo shops are not kid friendly places.

For our own safety as well as for the safety of your minors, please be aware of this rule.

  • Do we do piercings?

We do not do any piercings or other body modifications other than tattoos.

Most websites including Google and Facebook will put tattoo shops in the same category as piercings, which is unavoidable due to the nature of these websites, so please do not get confused if you see this on our social media profiles or google search.

But please do not be afraid to ask us for our recommendations on local piercers/piercing shops.

  • How do I set up an appointment?

We here at Fairwinds Tattoo Collective have an artist for nearly everything, each of us specializing in a different style, makes for a wide array of possiblities for your tattoo needs.

We recommend taking a look at our portfolios to get a feel for each artists specific style, in order to determine who would be best for your tattoo idea. Once you've gotten an idea of who you want to get work done by, simply select the contact button on their page; you'll be redirected to message them personally.

We always recommend reaching out to your artist first before coming in to the studio, as we are very busy and cannot guarantee any walk in availability.

  • What should I bring to a tattoo appointment?

You will need to bring your state issued ID, and a mask to wear in the studio.

Additionally we would recommend bringing headphones, your phone, a book, or something to keep you entertained while being tattooed. It is also recommended to bring a water bottle and to have eaten a well rounded meal beforehand.

  • How should I prepare for my tattoo?

    We recommend:

    • being well hydrated
    • eating well beforehand
    • being well rested
    • No drinking alcohol the day of or before
    • For the week before your appointment you can exfoliate and moisturize the area - but please no lotions the day of your tattoo
    • wearing the right clothing (i.e. no sleeves if you are getting something on your upper arm)
  • Aftercare Instructions

Generally depending on which artist you go to, whether it be here with us or at a different shop, your artist may have different aftercare instructions than what you have heard before. It is extremely important to follow that specific artists aftercare instructions for the tattoo they have given you, as some artists use different techniques for aftercare than others.

Most of our artists recommend using a medical adhesive bandage for their tattoo aftercare. After every session your tattoo artist will give you detailed instructions on how to care for your tattoo. If you forget any instructions, please ask your tattoo artist directly.

It is recommended to keep your tattoo out of the sun, out of bodies of water (ie. pools, hot tubs, oceans, lakes, rivers, etc.) away from children and pets, and sweat free (ie. no working out) during the healing process in order to heal your tattoo properly.

Do not pick, scratch, or rub your healing tattoo. When possible keep it covered and away from pet dander and children. Do not use any products that were not recommended by your tattoo artist. Generally we recommend using an antibacterial hand soap (not bar) to wash your tattoo 2-3 times a day, then moisturizing your tattoo with about a chapstick thin layer of white unscented hand lotion until your tattoo is completely healed over.
